24/7 health care at your fingertips
Your health and dental clients[1] and their insured dependents can now enjoy unlimited, unrestricted 24/7 virtual health care right on their phones via text or video chat. Access to medical consultants and clinicians is now possible through the Akira by Telus app – available to everyone registered with Manulife SecureServe.[2] The service, available anywhere in Canada, includes:
- Clinical screening and mental health assessments
- Prescriptions and prescription refills
- Referrals for diagnostic services, such as lab work or MRIs
- Text and video conversations
- Personalized mental wellness plan management
- An in-house bridge to psychiatry
- Referrals to registered mental health therapists

New insurance job aids
Product and policy information available when you need it.
When your client has questions about their policy or a specific product, you want access to that information as quickly as possible – and a phone call into the Manulife call centre may not be the most convenient option. To help you give your clients best-in-class service, more than a dozen job aids are now available that cover some of the most frequently asked questions about topics and questions. Topics include:
- Policy change requests and plan information, such as Finding plan information using My Clients — Universal Life
- Payments in and out, such as Policy payment inquiries
- Fund rates, performance and policy values, such as Current dated values for current selling insurance policies, and

Simplified underwriting for CI
New critical illness testing limits
A streamlined application process now makes it easier for your clients who want critical illness (CI) insurance. The urine HIV test has now been eliminated for the Lifecheque CI Term-10 and Term-20 policies for applicants aged 18 to 40 up to $250,000. This change allows more clients to purchase this coverage without any testing. Applications can be submitted with the underwriting sections completed or with a completed tele-interview. Most customers can be approved without a health professional visit.
Please note that coverage cannot be switched to other CI coverages within the first year of the contract.
