Heading off to college or university is an exciting time for most, but can be challenging for those affected by the loss of a parent or guardian with little to no life insurance. The emotional and financial stress of such a loss can be devastating and hinder a student’s dream of pursuing post-secondary education.
That’s where the Manulife Life Lessons Scholarship Program comes in. Created in collaboration with the U.S. non-profit organization Life Happens, the program provides financial support to alleviate some of the financial burden Canadian students may face in pursuit of a bright future.
This year, we set out to help five students fund their post-secondary education. But thanks to the generous contributions of Manulife internal partners and Seligman & Associates Ltd., we awarded 11 scholarships for the September 2020 semester!
We’re honoured to provide a little financial support to these brave and tenacious students. Take a few minutes to read their complete stories. “Not only do they demonstrate the emotional and financial impact of losing a parent or guardian,” says Rob Hollingsworth, Head of Distribution, Manulife Individual Insurance, “but it’s a good reminder of the important role that our advisors play in helping to ensure that Canadians have adequate insurance coverage to secure their family’s financial future.”
The program will accept applications for the September 2021 semester from February 1 through March 31. Stay tuned for details about how to share the program and how to get involved.
